  • BLS & Safe Use of an AED
    Heart and circulatory disease claims around 200,000 lives each year. Many could have been saved if a defibrillator was made available. Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) are now becoming more common throughout a range of public and work places. A casualty’s survival rate will dramatically increase if an AED is available and if you have appropriately qualified personnel to use it. This very practical course will enable your learners to use the AED competently and with confidence. Not only does this course deal with the use of an AED but it also includes vital training in basic life support including resuscitation. Duration A minimum of 4 contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities. Syllabus A range of subjects are covered including: • Responsibilities and reporting • Assessment of the situation • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty • Infection control • Resuscitation • AED functions • Defibrillation procedures • Safety measures Assessment and Marking The course Instructor is responsible for determining whether delegates pass or fail based on practical and oral assessment throughout the course, i.e. by observation and oral questioning, as well as the completion of a question paper at the end of the course. The Instructor will only award a pass if they believe that delegates have displayed the requisite understanding and competencies at the end of each session throughout the course and successfully completed the question paper. Certification This qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of achievement. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further 3 years. It is recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training.   • Level 3 Awareness of Safeguarding (RQF)
    Safeguarding is how we can protect children, young people and vulnerable adults from abuse or neglect by the actions, or lack of actions, of another person. In order to safeguard and protect persons from abuse or neglect we need to learn how to identify vulnerable individuals and take necessary steps to stop abuse and neglect. Everyone has the right to be safe and live without the fear of abuse, neglect or exploitation and this course aims to teach you how to recognise the signs of abuse and neglect and what actions you can take to stop this from happening and occurring again in the future. Abuse, neglect and exploitation can occur anywhere and by anyone, quite often being a person of trust. This course is designed for all persons, no matter the field that they are directly involved in, to give them the tools and knowledge to make a difference to a vulnerable person’s life. It will also let the practitioner reporting the abuse know how they can safeguard themselves in every day work, while seeking help and reporting the incident identified. - 1 Day Course Syllabus A range of subjects is covered including: • Safeguarding legislation and guidance • Indicators of abuse or neglect • Making judgements • Communication • Roles and responsibilities • Sharing of information • Dealing with and reporting of allegations and complaints • Assessment and marking Numbers A maximum of 12 students are allowed on the course and must be a minimum of 18 years of age.   • Student First Aid
    This ½-Day course is to ensure the next generation knows what to do in an emergency, the Government is planning to make health education compulsory in all state-funded schools in England from September 2020 and this includes basic first aid training. The Student First Aid qualification will provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid treatment confidently and safely. In addition, the qualification fulfils the requirements of the Department for Education in respect of first aid training. Duration ½ -Day Course Syllabus A range of subjects are covered including:- • What is first aid? • Primary survey • Recovery position • Resuscitation and AED • Choking • Common Injuries Certification The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the duration of the course and the learners will be required to complete a multiple-choice question assessment paper at the end of the programme.   • Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (RQF)
    This 2-Day course goes into detail on a wide range of mental health conditions and the support and help provided by healthcare professionals. It covers the content of both the Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications but is aimed at Trainer/Assessors and/or supervisor level within the workplace. Syllabus A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including: • What is First Aid for Mental Health? • Post-traumatic stress disorder • Identifying mental health conditions • Self-harm • Providing advice and starting a conversation • Suicide • Stress • Eating disorders • Mental health conditions • Personality disorders • Drugs and alcohol • Bipolar disorder • First Aid for Mental Health action plan • Psychosis • First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace • Schizophrenia • Depression • Anxiety Numbers A maximum of 16 students are allowed on the course and must be a minimum of 16 years of age.   • Annual Refresher for First Aiders
    Although it is not mandatory, the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) strongly recommend that qualified First Aiders and Emergency First Aiders undertake an annual refresher course in order to keep their skills up-to-date and refreshed. HSE link - First aid training providers - First aid at work (hse.gov.uk) This half day annual refresher course has been designed to meet that requirement and will help First Aiders to maintain their skills and knowledge whilst also keeping up-to-date with any changes to protocols. Duration A minimum of half day, consisting of theoretical and practical activities. Syllabus A range of subjects is covered including:- • Responsibilities • Communication skills • Primary Assessment • Top-to-toe survey • Recovery Position • Action for vomit • Resuscitation • Chain of Survival • Wounds and bleeding • Bandaging • Hygiene Certification A certificate of attendance will be issued.   • Level 1 Awareness of Safeguarding (RQF)
    This half Day course goes into detail on a wide range of Safeguarding and This qualification will provide an understanding of safeguarding which can be used in a workplace, activity group or any instance where a person comes into contact with children or adults at risk. The qualification provides learners with the knowledge to identify a safeguarding concern, record a disclosure and report to the appropriate person. Syllabus • Safeguarding legislation and guidance • Roles and responsibilities • Abuse and neglect • Identifying concerns and disclosure • Making judgements • Reporting safeguarding concerns Numbers A maximum of 16 students are allowed on the course and must be a minimum of 16 years of age.   • Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health
    This ½-Day course is aimed at providing learners with the knowledge to identify suspected mental health conditions and the skills to start a conversation and be able to signpost the person towards professional help. Syllabus A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including: • What is First Aid for Mental Health? • Identifying mental health conditions • Providing advice and starting a conversation • Stress • Mental health conditions Numbers A maximum of 16 students are allowed on the course and must be a minimum of 14 years of age.   • Immediate Management of Anaphylaxis
    An Anaphylactic shock, or anaphylaxis, is a life-threatening, serious allergic reaction to an allergen such as food substances or insect stings. If it is not treated appropriately, it may cause death. This training is for qualified First Aiders and Emergency First Aiders to enable them to recognise and treat anaphylaxis safely and effectively. When administering a medication, it is important to recognise and differentiate between allergic reactions and the potentially life-threatening anaphylactic reactions immediately. It is also essential to determine whether the individual has had an allergic or anaphylactic response to the medication in the past or prior to administration. This course is suitable for all First Aiders and healthcare professionals, as well as those in a high risk environment where such medication is available. Duration This is a classroom-based course of 1 day. Dependent on the learner’s experience, there may well be some pre-course or post-course reading. Syllabus The course is made up of practical and theoretical sessions delivered by your Instructor who will provide a detailed course programme. At the end of the course, learners will be able to: • Describe anaphylaxis • Identify triggers for anaphylaxis • Describe life threatening problems associated with the: • Airway • Breathing • Circulation • Disability (Neurological status) • Exposure (Skin and mucosal changes) • Explain the need for an early call for help • Explain the treatment for anaphylaxis: • Non re-breather mask • Removal of trigger • Auto-injector Certification This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew the qualification, learners will need to retake the full course. However, it is recommended that during the 3-year period, the learners attend annual refresher courses.   • Emergency First Aid at Work
    Where an organisation’s risk assessment of First Aid needs identifies that there is a requirement for Emergency First Aid at Work practitioners, then this national Award in Emergency First Aid at Work satisfies the requirements of the regulatory body for First Aid - the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). All learners will have the skills and knowledge to provide the organisation with Emergency First Aider’s that can provide treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner. Duration 1-day course consisting of practical and theoretical activities, plus some pre-course activity could be required. Syllabus A range of subjects are covered including:- • Responsibilities and reporting • Resuscitation and AED awareness • Burns • Assessment of the situation • Anatomy • Choking • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty • Minor injuries • Epilepsy • Basic hygiene in First Aid • Bleeding control • Shock Certification Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a three year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria. In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours. Numbers A maximum of 12 students are allowed and must be a minimum of 14 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment. A student cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace until they reach the age of 16, and then it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the student is suitable for that role.   • Appointed Person
    Where an employer’s assessment of First Aid needs identifies that a First Aider or Emergency First Aider is not necessary, the minimum requirement on an employer is to appoint a person to take charge of the First Aid arrangements, including looking after equipment and facilities, and calling the emergency services when required. Duration 2 hours of theoretical training with no practical training. Syllabus A range of subjects is covered including:- • Legislation • Equipment and facilities • Responsibilities • Accident Reporting • Risk Assessment of First Aid needs Certification A certificate of attendance is issued to all those who attend.   • Basic Life Support
    The Basic Life Support qualification will give learners the skills and knowledge to act in an emergency situation providing the casualty with critical life saving assistance until support arrives. The qualification is delivered following the protocols set by the Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines. Duration A minimum of 3 contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities. The course can be delivered in one day or spread over a maximum of 3 weeks ensuring that each session is a minimum of 1 hour. Syllabus A range of subjects are covered including: • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) • Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) • Primary Survey • Recovery position • Choking Assessment and Marking The course Instructor is responsible for determining whether delegates pass or fail based on practical assessment throughout the course, i.e. by observation and oral questioning.   • Activity First Aid - FAA Level 3 Award
    This Level 3 qualification is made up of two units including First Aid Essentials. It is specifically designed for those who are involved in any form of activity, including sports, leisure and recreation. Not only is Basic Life Support included, but many other First Aid conditions are also covered, making the full qualification very comprehensive. Unit 1, (or day 1) of this qualification contains and covers the learning outcomes of the level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work, so those who wish to gain the level 3 award in EFAW are able to sit day 1 of this qualification. Duration 2 days in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities, plus an assignment and some pre-course activity could be required. Syllabus A range of subjects are covered including:- • Responsibilities and reporting • Resuscitation • Angina • Assessment of the situation • Heart attacks • Choking • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty • Minor injuries • Seizures • Basic hygiene in First Aid • Bleeding control • Shock • Fractures • Head injuries • Asthma • Drowning injuries • Diabetes • Burns • Electrical injuries • Spinal injuries • Heat and cold Certification Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a three year qualification will be issued to the learner, subject to assessment. For those wishing to complete the full Level 3 qualification, this course must be completed within 6 weeks. Numbers A maximum of 12 students are allowed and must be a minimum of 14 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment.   • Paediatric Emergency First Aid
    The qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies on a professional level. The purpose of the qualification is for the learner to attain the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations. Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage - This two-day qualification fulfils the requirements for first aid training detailed in the Department for Education’s statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. Duration Total qualification Time (TQT) is 15 hours, with at least 12 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) in the classroom over a minimum of 2 days plus independant pre and post course study. Syllabus A range of subjects is covered including:- • Role of the Paediatric First Aider • Seizure • Diabetic emergencies • Primary survey • Choking • Asthma • Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED) • Minor injuries • Meningitis • Wounds, bleeding and shock • Recovery position • Febrile convulsions • Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis • Fractures • Extreme cold and heat • Head, neck and back injuries • Foreign bodies • Electrical incidents Age limit Students must be a minimum of 16 years of age to qualify. Numbers A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course. Assessment information The qualification is assessed both through practical demonstration and written assessment. A learner must successfully pass both the written and practical assessments to achieve the qualification. There is no grading of the assessment learners pass or are referred. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

  • Oxygen Therapy Administration
    This 1 Day course enables users to administer oxygen safely and effectively, for casualties with breathing difficulties. Delegates will learn how and when to administer oxygen to a casualty and the safety concerns with carrying, storing and administering it. This course is suitable for qualified First Aiders, Emergency First Aiders, dental practitioners and dental care professionals, nurses, healthcare professionals and others working in an environment where oxygen is available for casualty welfare. Duration This 1 Day Syllabus The course is made up of practical and theoretical sessions delivered by your Instructor who will provide a detailed course programme.   • First Aid at Work
    It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers provide a safe and healthy environment to work in. If your assessment of first aid needs highlights the need for qualified first aiders, then this level 3 qualification (level 6 in Scotland) will provide you with suitable, highly trained personnel. This comprehensive three-day course covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. In addition, this course will include any protocol changes that may have arisen since their last training course. This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
